PEOPLE’S DEVELOPMENT
People’s Development is the foundation for community development activities. RLHP, through training’s and meetings strengthened the capacity of the people in decision making and tackling urban and rural issues on their own initiatives. The involvement of existing committees contributed to effective access to the public schemes at grass root level. Through this initiatives the community become capable enough to fulfil the basic needs such as food, energy, housing, drinking water, sanitation, health care, education, and social security. Besides helping the slum dwellers to defend their rights and pursue short term interest, RLHP focused on organising people’s movement to address their long term and strategic need through advocacy and lobbying with government to evolve and implement more radical long term policies.
COMMUNITY BASED ORGANISATIONS
Ensuring people’s participation is an important element in the sustainability of community development. RLHP has facilitated the formation and strengthening of CBOs such as Mysuru Slum Dwellers Federation (MSDF), VHSC (Village Health Sanitation Committee), BRSSS (Backward Region Scheme Support Sangha), and SDMC with increased collective strength for lobbying with the Government for accessing the basic facilities like Education, Health, Livelihood and Social Protection for the development of the deprived sections of community in order to lead a dignified life. Awareness and knowledge building on Health, Education and Livelihood sectors through community mobilisation, grass root level participation and collaboration with Govt. & Panchayats, empowered the people on the State and Central Govt. Schemes for the development of poor in urban and rural areas.
MASS CONTACT PROGRAMMES
The Mass Contact Programme is a platform where the community and the government officials gathered together, and the community members raise their issues and constrains before the government authorities and seek solutions from the concerned officials. The programme creates an opportunity for the govt. officials to understand the actual situation of the slums and villages. Through conducting similar programmes many of the community issues have been resolved such as sanitation facilities, school and angnwandi issues, women issues, drinking water availability, waste management etc.
